Heartlines - Epilogue

Sam slid into his desk at homeroom, waiting for Ava. She sat down a few minutes later and handed Sam half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

“Morning,” Ava looked at him blearily. “What’s wrong?”

Sam looked back at her sadly. He reached out and touched her hand. “Ava, I’m sorry but we’re not going to be able to go through with the plan.”

“But the plan was foolproof! It would have worked.”

“Probably,” Sam said with a nod, his expression still solemn. “However, I really should have called Dean for that ride instead of letting your dad drive me home.”

“What does that have to do with anyth - ” Ava stared at him, her mouth open wide with shock. “No way!”

Sam nodded. “And I am scarred for life.”

Ava clapped her hands together happily. “That’s awesome. Not the scarred for life part, but the rest of it.”

“Don’t say anything. Remember your promises.”

Ava mimed zipping her lips, her face still aglow. She took a bite of the sandwich and bounced happily in her seat. Sam was tempted to do the same, but really, that would be over the top. So he just ate the sandwich and inwardly cheered.

Ahhh! I loved this!

I liked the balance of the sad and the sweet, the way that you mixed up the horrible family life of the Winchesters with the deep love that Dean and Sam have for each other. And then the Dean/Cas love story- I really liked that as well.

Sam and Ava had a really cool relationship. I liked the comparison with his old friends, and then Ava.

I was wondering if this was a stand alone story or if you were planning to make this a series? I was curious if you were going to expand on Sam's weird Dean/Cas dreams, or if his non-sexual cuddling with Ava was leading anywhere specific beyond just Sam being able to have female friends without it needing to be sexual.

As sad as the situation is, I really liked the world that you created here. I think Dean's past was really rich and while I wouldn't have come up with librarian as a Dean-like profession on my own, it really does fit him here.
