okay. lois and i are alive and well in southern jersey. we took a nice long loop to miss nyc though we did see it while crossing the tappen zee bridge. yesterday when we crossed it, we saw the towers. today when we crossed it we saw smoke and a hole in the skyline. i wanted to cry.

i almost did cry while driving down the new jersey turnpike and we saw about 20-30 trucks loaded with supplies and 5-6 buses full of people all escorted by the state police up the turnpike to jersey city where the volunteer efforts are centering. the guy in the jeep next to us was crying.

i'm home and i'm very happy to be home. i feel very out of it but i'm somewhere familiar and that makes me feel a little better. heard from chris this morning as well. he's trapped in atlanta but he's safe. that makes me happy.

i'm going to call karen and waryne and patrick and see how they are and give hugs if i can. i want to see them.

my friend Mike recently started (by recently i mean in the last few days) teaching science to 6, 7, and 8th graders. his post today almost made me cry because i know that he wasn't the only teacher asked these questions today.

our nation's children are confused and scared. and i don't think anyone can explain what really happened to them.
