that pretty much covers it without getting into the messy details. instead, i shall post the answers to the long ago book meme and most likely meme again. lj-cut is my friend.
anything starred wasn't guessed. though 11 wasn't for lack of trying. i think almost every other book in the series was guessed but the one it was.
1. My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.
*2. She hurries from the house, wearing a coat too heavy for the weather. The Hours by Michael Cunningham.
3. The elevator continued its impossibly slow ascent. Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the Universe by Haruki Murakami.
4. The woman pushed on the baby's stomach and sucked its penis into her mouth; it was thinner than the American menthols she smoked and a bit slimy, like raw fish. Coin Locker Babies by Ryu Murakami.
5. Harry Potter was a highly unusual boy in many ways. The Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling
6. On a sticky August evening two weeks before her due date, Ashima Ganguli stands in the kitchen of a Central Square apartment, combining Rice Krispies and Planters peanuts and chopped red onion in a bowl. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri.
7. It was 7 minutes after midnight. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
*8. With the woman on his mind and a deep uneasiness in his heart, Spencer Grant drove through the glistening night, searching for the red door. Dark Rivers of the Heart by Dean Koontz.
9. Suppose that you and I were sitting in a quiet room overlooking a garden, chatting and sipping at our cups of green tea while we talked about something that had happened a long while ago, and I said to you, "That afternoon when I met so-and-so ... was the very best afternoon of my life, and also the very worst afternoon." Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.
10. 'To be born again,' sang Gibreel Farishta tumbling from the heavens, 'first you have to die.' The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie

okay. next is the icon meme which lots of people did, but i copied from
mickeym.
What is your default icon?

My current default is a fairly recent picture of Callum Keith Rennie. The actual picture is huge and features all of his face, much of his arm, and a fence. I cropped it a bit and played with the contrast until it's mostly about his eyes, the deep wrinkles around his mouth and on his forehead, and his lips. I change my default fairly often, but this one pleases me quite a bit. It's been a default for a couple of weeks at least. Damn, he's sexy.
Oldest icon in use?
or
I can't remember which icon came first, but they're both from around the same time. The Stargate icon is quite possibly the most perfect icon I've ever made in my life. I love how it's framed, the expression on Daniel's face, the image of Jack opening a beer Daniel won't drink. Everything about it screams tension which is exactly what so much of Stargate is for me. Especially between those two. The other icon was first made for rec'ing stories. Because hey, I do like crap. Plus it just makes me smile so much.
Newest icon?

I have no idea where this came from, but it's Billy on the couch after he found out he didn't get the Jenifur gig and he's drunk and upset and lonely and yeah. He's Jack's wasted life. How pretentious of me.
Favorite icon in use made by someone else?

This was made by
dayse who is my bitch. I ask her to make stuff and she does. Yay! Also, it's Alan Rickman slightly toasted at last year's PoA premiere party dancing (no lie) to Outkast. What's not to love about that? Especially cause he's doing the white man dance with the little balled up fists.
Favorite icon in use made by you?
and
I explained why I love the first one up above, but I'll say again that it just sums up Stargate for me so much. Shades of Grey is just such a pivotal moment in the show for so many reasons. It's all about trust and loss and lies and that's just so much what Jack and Daniel is for me as well. It's a moment captured in icon form - a moment that just means Stargate to me. The second icon is fairly recent and I haven't used it much. It's from the due South pilot so it's a different Dief, but the moment is so right. Fraser's flying to his father's funeral and Dief just puts his head on Fraser's shoulder and Fraser leans into him, taking comfort from the one person who is always there to offer it. And fight as they do, Fraser and Dief give each other so very much comfort and love.
Okay. So what's your favourite icon of mine?
oh. so i thought of something else to talk about. music. i've obtained ben folds 'songs for silverman', nin's 'with teeth', the hdrc's 'the high cost of low living', and various headstones albums over the last few weeks. sufficed to say, i'm in a very happy musical place. i'm totally in love with hugh dillon's voice. also, i've decided that i must own all of paul gross's awful, awful country music because it's just the right kind of terrible for me to love. 'ride forever' is the best. song. ever. no really. hmm. perhaps you should keep in mind that 'riddle' is one of my favourite nsync songs. and i adore radiohead's 'vegetable.' also, 'the laughing gnome' by david bowie is pure genius. fuck all haters, yo. i love the bad stuff.
