vamplover84 asked for gen(ish) team fic of either the SG1 or SGA variety. I went with the SG1 variety and it's definitely gen(ish). I can't help but make Jack and Daniel a little bit on the couple-y side. It's not exactly filled with action and it's set about 5 years in the future with a bit of a smooshy factor. But it's definitely the original four - Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Teal'c. So yes.
It's been entirely too long since Jack's stepped through the 'Gate. Five years behind a desk and he's retiring for real this time. No more meetings with the Joint Chiefs, no more waking up to the President's worried voice, no more wondering if the world is going to go to hell if he goes on vacation. Just peace, quiet, and a lot of fishing.
But first he's got one last unofficial thing to do and he slowly walks up the ramp to the open wormhole, Daniel and Sam by his side. With a smile, he steps through the event horizon and into the temple at Dakara. Teal'c stands on the other side, an enigmatic smile on his face.
"O'Neill," Teal'c says as he steps forward, clasping Jack's forearms in his large hands. "I am honoured that you were able to join us and accept our invitation."
"We wouldn't miss it for the world," Sam says brightly. She throws her arms around Teal'c, hugging him close. If Jack remembers correctly (and sometimes he doesn't), it's been at least three years since Sam and Teal'c have seen each other. "You're a grandfather, Teal'c!"
Teal'c inclines his head slightly when he lets her go. Daniel's got his hands in his pockets, grinning a bit. Daniel travels to Dakara two or three times a month depending on his schedule. He's been working with the scientists in the Pegasus galaxy, trying to create a complete dictionary of the Ancient language.
"So," Jack says, shifting his brightly packaged gift bag to his other hand. "Do I get to meet the squirt before the ceremony or do I have to wait until I'm recognized as her ... what was it again?"
"Godparent," Daniel says dryly, stepping over to Jack. "Har'ak Nar."
"Yeah, that thing. So where's the squirt? And how's Kar'yn?"
"Rya'c and Kar'yn are awaiting your arrival in the nursery. They are both well," Teal'c says, eyeing Jack's bag. "May I inquire about the present you have purchased, O'Neill?"
"I thought about a puppy," Jack says, looking over at Daniel when Daniel clears his throat. "But *someone* told me that might not be a good idea since the squirt doesn't know whether her feet are her own feet at this point."
"I just thought you should wait and maybe *ask* Rya'c and Kar'yn if they want a puppy," Daniel says. "He bought a whole bunch of toys, Teal'c. The books are from me and the clothes are from Sam."
"While it is an Earth custom for every child to have a puppy," Teal'c says. "It is probably best that we wait on that particular gift from her Har'ak Nar."
Sam pats Jack's shoulder. "If it makes you feel better, Nicky loves the puppy you got him."
"See," Jack says to Daniel. "Nicky loves *his* puppy."
Daniel rolls his eyes and instead of commenting, peers at an already deciphered bit of writing. Sam laughs a little, putting her arm around Daniel's waist. "Lead the way, Teal'c. We're right behind you."
Teal'c walks next to Jack, asking him about the new cabin he is building in Minnesota on a lake that actually contains fish for once. The entire walk is filled with Jack enthusing about the building materials, the smell of fresh pine, and most importantly, the fish that practically jump onto his line.
"So how is it really going?" Sam whispers to Daniel, a few steps behind the other two.
"He's got a floor and two walls done so far," Daniel whispers back. "And I think I've seen a total of three fish in that lake and he's caught two of them. At this rate, I'm going to have to seed the lake with fish so he doesn't get bored and start showing up at the SGC to bother us."
Sam laughs, tipping her head against Daniel's shoulder briefly. "Just keep him out of my hair and from buying Nicky another dog. Buster is about as calm as a tornado."
Daniel just laughs, covering his mouth with his hand as Teal'c leads them into a small, cozy room where Rya'c and Kar'yn are standing over a small basket, smiles on their faces. Jack sets the bag aside and gathers Kar'yn into a tight hug of congratulations. Rya'c beams brightly, looking so very proud.
"Come, come," Kar'yn says with a tug of Jack's hand. "Meet your Har'ak Mal."
"I thought I was her Har'ak Nar." Jack follows Kar'yn, reaching out to clasp Rya'c's forearms in his own.
"You are her Har'ak Nar. Jul'na is your Har'ak Mal," Rya'c explains. "Thank you for coming, O'Neill. We are honoured by your acceptance."
"I dig the godparent gig," Jack says, watching as Kar'yn pulls back the blankets around the baby.
Teal'c leans over the basket and lifts the tiny baby in his hands, cradling her head and bottom. Jack holds out his hands and Teal'c gently settles her in Jack's arms. Sam wraps her arm around Daniel's waist again, leaning against him as they all watch Jack and his new goddaughter meet for the very first time.
