Nsync - Philly 4/9/02
Apr. 10th, 2002 10:46 pmThis is very, very looooong. I wrote it out in Word and it was 6 pages. *cough* I remembered a lot. "A lot."
Okay, so I pick up Julia @ 3:15 and we head over to the FU Center, already squeeing our asses off because it's almost time and both of us have been so excited about this. We park and head over to the box office to see what they have available. We're already expecting a long wait going by what I've experienced in the past. There's two people in line in front of us. The woman at the window is totally argumentative with the woman at the box office because nothing good is coming up. She leaves in a huff. The next lady, no lie, is buying circus tickets. Julia and I wait patiently until it's our turn and ask super politely what they have. Gotta make friends with the ticket people. They'll get you something good if you're nice.
She kind of gives us a little apologetic look and says "Well we just had some floor seats open up."
We're kind of like okay, figuring they're the section 7 seats that have been on ticketmaster all day.
"Section 2 Row 3."
We freak out and pull out our money. She gives us a really apologetic look when she says it's $220. We had her the money without any qualms and take the tickets. We managed to make it outside without freaking out.
Outside we commence to freak out because SECTION 2 ROW 3! Pit tickets! 3 fucking rows from the stage. Like. How the hell did that happen? We'd only been there for maybe 5 minutes.
We managed to calm down and get the supplies for the FKA sign out. We spread out the cloth behind my car and start painting it in the parking lot. We get halfway done (It's all about the...) when it starts to POUR. We're on the phone with Chrissy and Anna at the time so we somehow get the sign in the trunk of the car and get inside, waiting for it to pass. Needless to say by the time we finished the sign, it was soaked. Totally. The FKA sign was finished but it never made it inside because it was soaking wet. So we had no sign. And looking back, that was sad because we had such great seats and Chris was in front of us so much.
But yes. We get inside and decide not to sell the tickets we already had, instead going all the way to the top and back of the arena and giving them away. We found a little girl, maybe 6 or 7, and her mother and give them the tickets. The little girl was so excited and we saw them sitting down in the good seats and they looked so happy.
Note: We're still freaking out at this point.
As we're walking down to get to the pit, we run into a little slasher convention: Kyla, Jawa, Ruthie, Allecto, and Drew. Small talk for a bit. Head to the pit. Freak out again when we're actually down there. We make friends with the girls next to us. Ignore the nine million hoochies around us and snub the evil guard lady who told us a) there was no getting up and moving; and b) there was no taking pictures. She got yelled at by one of the other guard type people when she tried to stop someone from taking pictures duing Tony’s performance. Haha. I feel no guilt about being happy that she got yelled at.
NSB – much with the funny. Joe Sr. was flirting with the girls in the pit the whole time. The rest of the band, eh. They’re no Joe. Sr. [grins]
Tony – Totally rocked. I can so see why JC loves him. Really. JC and Tony are MFEO. Of course, JC’s a slut as we figured out after the show and looked back on things. So, Smashmouth wasn’t performing tonight so Tony’s set got extended. Went and got Tony’s autograph and met him. Sweet guy. Really, really small. Tiny boy. Again, JC/Tony all the way.
Now...here’s where things get all blurry. I will do my best to go along with what I remember.
‘Do Your Thing’ is the perfect song to start this tour off with because really, this whole concert is them doing their thing and not conforming to what they’re supposed to do. It’s a very stripped down tour compared to the last two.
Really, my thoughts for most of this was...
CHRISSSS! Right in front of me! SO hot! Eeeeee!
And
Jayceeeee! Want to touch! So pretttty!
Joooooeeeey!
Dude, all through the show Joey was flirting with the girls and totally talking to the people in the pit, smiling and winking at them.
And...*coughs* Timberlake is fucking hot. Fucking Timberlake. You’re like, drawn to the fucker. Fucker. A lot of the Timberlake thoughts aren’t complete without calling him a hot fucker. Because that’s what he is.
Sadly, Lance was like non-existant. He was playing a lot to the other side of the stage and not to us, but even when he was in front of us, he didn’t seem to be a part of things. He was more laidback and he didn’t ham it up as much as the other four. He didn’t really play to the crowd much. He seemed a little tired. But he was still a fucking great dancer and so, SO hot.
I hate to say it but I agree with Ceili about Lance’s dancing. He’s not the worst dancer of the bunch anymore. It is Chris and I’m sure it’s because of the knees. He just doesn’t move as smoothly as the others do anymore.
JC and Chris were so playing to each other all night. And JC and Joey. At one point, they’re singing to each other and Justin looks over and just shakes his head a little and smiles secretly. They were just ALL over each other.
There were so many cute, squee-worthy moments where they just laughed and smiled at each other and just seemed so happy and relaxed. Honestly, they seem to be having much more fun with this tour than they did on PO. JC, who was pretty aloof during PO, was so happy and smiley and playing to the crowd. He and Justin reached out to the crowd the most, Lance the least. JC just seems so comfortable and happy in his own skin right now. It was beautiful to watch, and why, when I eventually get pictures scanned, I have so many pictures of him.
IWYB – I seriously tried to take notes on this. Ask Julia. I had my pen and notepad but we couldn’t really hear in the pit because the speakers were right in front of us. I did my best.
They all sat down and JC says all low and slow into the mic, looking at Joey. “Hi, Jackson.”
Joey points in the other direction and they all look at Lance who’s on the other end. “That’s Jackson.”
Lance grins and says all slow and deep “Hi there, Jackson.”
Justin then imitates Lance’s voice and starts to talk all low.
Chris mentioned that the clock has said 8:44 for a really long time. Justin laughed and said that here’s what they would do so they can pay the band. “We’ll take up a collection and if everyone pays $2 we can stay and play all night.” The crowd screams.
At this point, JC and Chris said something at the same time and started the whole “Stop saying what I’m saying! Stop saying what I’m saying! JINX!” thing. Justin pronounced JC the winner and says that Chris can’t talk until someone says his name. Chris gets all mad, kicks over his stool and walks back to the band, leaning in close to Reuben.
The other four are all busy laughing at Chris and doing other stuff and they don’t see Chris stomping back and laughing. He starts to talk and they’re all “Who said your name?”
Chris: I got a friend in the band. Right, Rueben?
They all turn to look at Rueben and he just shrugs and Chris laughs at them again.
Around now, things start to get a little sketchy again. I don’t even know how it started, I think because JC was making fun of Chris still.
Chris stands up and grabs JC’s head, messing up his hair. He’s just going to town, rubbing his hands all over JC’s head and totally crowding him. JC’s laughing and sitting perfectly still the whole time Chris is doing this. Everyne else is just looking at them and laughing. Joey joins in and he and Chris try to mold JC’s hair into a mohawk, finally giving up and stepping back to show off the fro. JC just sits up proudly with his hair ALL over his head, like totally froing. He just grins all big and Justin laughs, lifting his hat up and saying “Now you know why I shaved mine.” JC tries to fix his hair and Joey and Chris just do it again. Joey slicks it into a pompadour. JC finally just throws the towel over his head and peeks out from under it.
This is where the whole “JC has a story!” thing started and JC was all pouty and like, no. I’m not telling a story. Haven’t you embarrassed me enough? Naturally they all said no. I couldn’t tell you anything he said during the story and they just go right into singing. Which was great, but I wasn’t paying all that much attention to.
You see, I was watching Joey because Joey was talking to the girls up front and joking with them. He was in total Joey-flirt mode. He pointed at the wedding ring on his finger and cleary mouthed ‘I can’t.’ They obviously didn’t listen and Joey tilts his head back, points to the ring again and then slides it off, looking for a pocket. He mouths that he doesn’t have one and then pretends to throw it. He immediately starts singing again and slips the ring onto his pinkie finger.
Chris reaches over and touches the sun on JC’s shirt and JC looks down and Chris proceeds to flick his nose. JC looks all shocked and starts to laugh. He holds up two fingers and clearly says to Chris “That’s the second time”. Chris just laughs happily and shakes his head, holding up four fingers. JC slaps his thighs and throws his arms up, shaking his head, like he can’t believe he’s gotten tricked that many times. He then proceeds to put a finger on one of Chris’s patches, trying to trick him. Chris just looks over at JC with this ‘you’ve got to be joking’ look but he still looks down at JC’s finger to make him happy. JC laughs and flicks Chris’s nose and then goes back to business of singing.
JC and Justin were totally singing to each other through the song, leaning over Chris and so into it. Lance and Joey were kind of off to the sides and doing their own thing, getting into it as much as necessary but still talking to the audience more.
Joey starts to play with JC’s belt, spinning it around and tugging on it. He finds the little feather part and starts to rub it against JC’s arm. JC finally notices, looking down so Joey takes advantage of that and tickles JC’s nose. JC just laughs and pokes Joey happily.
They stop at the last note and Justin looks over at JC. This starts the whole ‘JC should sing the last note’ banter. JC refuses to do it, hiding under the towel again. Chris pulls him up and says to picture the audience in their underwear and JC starts to laugh as Chris says not that guy and that whole thing. I think that bit’s been done at every show.
BUT.
Tonight we had a change because this girl in the front row pulls her top all the way down and just stays like that. Joey notices first and his eyes bug out. Chris sees and nudges Justin and Lance sees. They’re all trying not to notice but still staring. Joey grabs JC’s arm and JC looks, and laughs. Joey starts to laugh and buries his face in JC’s shoulder to stop looking at the boobies on display. Hence the whole JC is the antidote to boobies quote of the night, the first of two quotes of the night.
JC sings his note and it’s great. Everyone is so happy and clapping.
I think that’s the most amazing part of the whole show, because they ARE so happy and talking and joking with each other. And it amazes me how one moment they can be laughing and teasing each other and a split second later be totally serious and singing with all their heart.
So, IWYB is fnished and we look over to the side and see Tony and a few other people leaving, including a woman who wasn’t Kelly carrying a baby who was Brianna. Dude, Brianna was in the pit to watch her dad. Eeee! Totally cute.
Downside to the pit was during the medleys. They were totally great, but we were blinded during them for the most part because of the lights. Still, oh my God, Ilovethemsomuch! moments all the way through. At one point during the Temptations medley, the lights hit Chris and Justin so they were silhouteed and you could see Chris standing with his hand on Justin’s shoulder.
LOVED Celebrity and UATW. Hell, everything was great. Though, one complaint I had and it might be because of where we were was that JC’s voice sounded really strange. It was almost tinny and very high at certain points. I really noticed it in It’s Gonna Be Me but it seemed to even out at other points so who knows. He may have just been really off during IGBM. I seriously can’t even remember everything.
Totally have a new appreciation for ‘Girlfriend’ after seeing it performed right in front of me. Now love it. Because of the slow, liquid choreography and the way they just seem to roll their bodies.
‘Gone’. Holy fuck. Fucking Timberlake. See, everyone followed Justin onto the catwalk, so a lot of the pit was in that direction. The other four were standing onstage singing so I stood against the railing with Lonnie right next to me and took pictures of them, watching as they sang along. Only JC seemed really into it and once Justin started riffing and doing his thing with the guitarist, they left the stage.
Okay. So Timberlake and I have a tumultous relationship at this point. I love the little fucker but I can’t stop calling him a little fucker. It’s just how things are. And ‘Gone’ is completely a that little fucker experience. I love him. So much. Fuck everything. Justin’s a hot little bitch and he knows it what with all the grandstanding and licking his lips and just playing the crowd up. He loves it and I love that he’s comfortable touching people and having people touch him again. He was just so happy and in love with the crowd. It was great.
‘Pop’ scared the shit out of me because of all the fireworks all the way through it. Me and fireworks don’t get along and all night long they’d bene going off but during ‘Pop’ it was ALL fireworks. Hell, Chris and JC were pretty much dancing in the ones on the side. Chris’s arms were even red at the end of it.
They all were standing behind the band and waving. Joey and Lance were laughing and leaning in all close to each other. They slid down the fire poles, waving the whole time. JC says all quietly ‘see you next week’ and disappears. Chris was the last to go down and he twirled the whole way down.
Gah.
So fucking amazing. And that fire pole was what gave us quote number 2 of the night: Anything that makes them clench their thighs is fine by me.
We were sitting in the car and talking and waiting to exit the parking lot. We said that we couldn’t really say that it was a ton of JoeC or TrickC even though they were the most obvious because really, JC was all over everyone. As Julia said, JC was kind of a slut tonight. He was giving Justin eyes all night and dancing all up on Lance. He was totally all over Chris and Joey all night long and just playing with them. Slut!JC.
So yes. It was over and we were happy and so high on life and excited. I got the pictures developed at the Walgreens next door. Woo! They’ve finally done something good for me. I go back to get them and the girl at the photo part was all amazed and asking about the seats and telling me how they want to make reprints for themselves and is it okay? And oh my God, they’re so pretty and Justin is so hot and Jayceee! So yes, the Walgreens girls were squeeing over my pictures before I even got to see them.
I will be sitting in the computer lab at school tomorrow before class like a huge dork and scanning a TON of them. I have four rolls done, and black and white coming in on Friday. I would say that about 90% of the pictures turned out amazing.
I am STILL all shaky and totally excited about what happened. I can’t wait until next week. Philly on Thursday and then DC on Sunday. Yay! Two more times! Two more times!
I am such a (happy) dork.

It's just I keep watching the Beatles thing and they're all having such a good time and Iwannaseeiwannaseeiwannasee!
Everyone? Forget the FKA signs. Take ones that say "Take Celebrity Worldwide! Your EU fans are lonely!"
Or something.
Because. Yes. I really want to see this one. It sounds totally worth the hassle of dragging neph along.
whimper
At the very least- a DVD. So if I can't have them live, at least I can have them on the widescreen tv with professional quality sound.

Date: 2002-04-10 10:23 pm (UTC)yes. Like. At this point, I don't know that I want to buy popodyssey, because I'm kind of annoyed that so far there's no hint of an EU tour, and no hint of a DVD, and people are really sounding like this tour is by far the nicer one from the point of view of seeing the guys interact and them showing off their musical talent. (As opposed to their ability to pay for a fuckload of special effects.)
If they tell me they're going to release celebrity, I'll go out and buy popodyssey as soon as I can, because I will no longer be annoyed by the fact that I'm being denied the show I really want to see.
Or something. It makes sense in my head, anyway.

Date: 2002-04-10 09:03 pm (UTC)Wait until you see some of the Joey I got. :) They're great! And on one of the undeveloped rolls of film there is a very deliberate picture of the Fatone Booty taken from like 2 feet away. It had to be done. He was shaking it in my face. :)

Date: 2002-04-10 09:04 pm (UTC)And, when I read you gave the tickets away, I had chills run down my arms and spine. That?s so freaking cute and awesome of you. I bet the girl will remember that concert for the rest of her life. And mom is happy too, cause maybe she can?t really afford tickets and you just gave them to them. Wow.
Anyways, I love your quotes, they're so cute. And the thing with Joey and his ring? Eeeee. Who would have thought, right?
Thanks for typing that up.

Date: 2002-04-10 10:06 pm (UTC)I was there last night too and don't know if you saw what I did during "Sailing". Another JoeC moment. :) I was right under the walkway when Joey was leaning over the railing facing the center floor area and JC just walked right up and started smacking Joey's ass. He did it at least 4 or five times before Joey finally turned around and they both sort of laughed at each other.
I didn't know whether or not you saw that so I figured I'd share. *lol*
