If it's in a retirement fund and you haven't actually received a check in the calendar year 2001, you shouldn't have needed to report it, because you haven't actually earned it in a taxable manner.

Okay. I never recieved a check from them. Thankfully. But not at the same time. Sitting in that retirement fund is enough money to go to the Orlando show.

Not without having it be so severely taxed that it's not worth it.

I withdrew the funds from my last job's retirement plan rather than rolling them over to my new job's, and that's one of the few times you can do it without having SEVERE penalties. If you've got enough in there to go to the Orlando show, but withdrew it now, you *might* have enough left to get a rental car while you're there instead. They tax stuff like that pretty hard because it's all withdrawn from your pay *before* the income tax is figured on your paycheck (so less tax is removed from your net pay) - but to compensate for them doing that, they expect you to hold onto that dough until you retire - or switch jobs.

Okay. Bah. I figured that would be the case but I was hoping there would be some way around it. See. I have no retirement fund to roll it into because I'm not fulltime at my current job. I guess I'll just have to hold onto it until that happens.

Ah well. I wasn't really trying to go to Orlando anyway. I'll just stick with the three I'm getting now. :) Oh, and speaking of pretty, sparkly danceboys, when were you, Steph, and Ang looking to come up on Thursday? Because again, I'm going to be a ticket bitch and try to get some day off and I'll have Julia with me if you guys want to hook up and hang out pre-show. Lemme know. :)

oh... but if you have no fund to roll it into, that's a different story. It's from your old job? That's when you have some options. You can usually cash them out then, and there's still a tax hit, but no where near as severe as if you were just doing an early withdrawal.

Thursday we've got dinner plans with Jai, Gretchen, Vero, Annie & Dani - but I'm SURE we'll see you around :) Steph and I are going to try to upgrade, but not sure if we'll have success. We'll probably be up there in the late afternoon sometime (not sure what time I'm picking up Ang at BWI.)

I should really look into those details, huh? ;-)
