Jan. 5th, 2006 02:14 amFraser carried the mail back from the RCMP headquarters in a knapsack, Dief bouncing around him happily which meant the package for Ray contained some sort of food item. It was from his mother so the possibility was extremely high that there was a large assortment of food items. Ray’s mother seemed to think he was going to starve up in the Northwest Territories.
Though, if Fraser was pressed, he would admit that he enjoyed the packages of pierogis and cabbage rolls. And Dief loved the cookies she always sent.
Fraser opened the front door to their cabin, setting the package on the table along with the rest of the mail. “Ray?”
“I’m in the back,” Ray called out. “I’ll be out in a sec.”
“You got a package from your mother,” Fraser said, sitting down to take his boots off. “I’m quite sure it contains food since Dief is so interested in it.”
Ray came walking into the room, tugging a sweatshirt on over his head. He rubbed his hand over Dief’s head before leaning down to kiss Fraser lightly. “Did you open it?”
“It’s your package, Ray,” Fraser said, touching Ray’s wet hair. “You really need to dry your hair or you’ll catch a cold.”
Ray rolled his eyes and shook his package. “Thanks, Mom.”
Fraser chuckled a little and flipped through the rest of the mail. “Just open your box.”
Ray tore into his package, opening it with relish. “Oh hey. Pierogi and cabbage rolls. And cookies for Dief.” He took one out of the bag and handed it to Dief. “Plus she sent chocolate.”
Fraser looked interested at that. “What kind of chocolates?”
“M&Ms,” Ray said happily. “Smarties are okay and everything, but nothing beats real M&Ms.”
“Anything else?” asked Fraser hopefully.
Ray laughed and tossed him a Twix bar. “Yeah. She loves you too.” He went back to digging in the box, a cookie in his mouth. “Thewes aposfcaw foo.”
“Don’t talk with your mouth full, Ray,” Fraser scolded him before taking a bite of his Twix bar.
Ray swallowed and scowled at Fraser. “I said that she sent a postcard too. It’s from the Bahamas. Wow. My parents went to the Caribbean.”
“For their anniversary?”
Ray read the postcard to himself before handing it to Fraser. “You want pierogi for dinner?”
Fraser looked at the postcard of a sandy white beach and blue water. “Sounds good to me.”
Ray grabbed a packet of pieroigi and headed over to the stove, whistling to himself. “We should go to the Caribbean.”
“You don’t like the ocean, Ray.”
“I like drinking girly drinks and laying around in a pool,” Ray said, turning to grin at Fraser. “Plus I promise I’ll wear a skimpy bathing suit.”
Fraser got up and pinned the postcard to the refrigerator next to pictures of Frannie’s kids. He kissed Ray’s neck lightly. “How can I resist an offer as appealing as that?”
