So I'm putting my entire post behind a spoiler-cut.

And now that I've done it, I don't really know what I want to say. I know that I really hated the whole '19 Years Later...' crap and I probably won't reread that part when I reread. It left a bad taste in my mouth and while I was crying in the shower (but not for as long as I did post-HBP), I realized that it actually lessened the impact of the book for me. And I'm kind of mad about that.

This book was fast-paced and nail-biting and tense and amazingly detailed. There were a lot of deaths, but people die in war. Good people die in war. I'm not sure if that was the point of all the deaths, but that was what hit me - especially Remus and Tonks. Though I wasn't very happy with how that was executed in the sense that I had to re-read twice to realize that yes, they were dead and that's why they were lying next to Fred. Also, Hedwig! And Dobby!

Snape ...

I ... liked his death. He died like he lived. Friendless and alone, no one to recognize his sacrifice except Harry. Also, I KNEW HE WASN'T entirely EVIL!

But really, I don't know how I feel right now. I enjoyed the book. I really loved parts of it. I really hated parts of it (mostly the epilogue and Ron leaving despite the necessity of it (Ron leaving, not the epilogue. That wasn't necessary at all)). I cried a lot because hi, I'm a crier. I'm totally exhausted because in the last 24 hours I've read about 1100 pages (had to finish HBP). And I keep wondering how they're going to put all this in a movie. What underlying plots do they cut? I think a lot of that will depend on what happens in the movie version of HBP, but that's musings for another post.

Now I'm going to watch the Nick in a box episode of CSI and try to process a little more.

Yeah...that 19 years later was not...of the good.

I really wasn't too happy with the deaths in general, in that I get yes, death happens and often off-screen, but really? Nearly every major character's death happens off-screen. I REALLY liked Snape's death, but for all the investment we were meant to have for Remus and Tonks, already dead? Feh.

It's weird, though - there's always such a gap between books, that sometimes the books feel like fan fiction when I read them.

I tend to forget what is real and what is fanfiction in HP. I did my best to reread right before this came out, but only managed half of book 1 and book 6.

I'm not happy with all the off-screen death because I want to see the meaning behind how they died (especially Remus and Tonks), but I think part of that is because it's still technically a book for kids. Whether it is or not is an argument for people with kids to have.

I really liked the book. Would have preferred more in the epilogue...more info on more characters, etc.

But I was glad Harry got what he always wanted--a family like the Weasleys.

I guess I didn't like the epilogue because I kind of hate those ... and years later, this happened ... type of things. I would have rather had it open to interpretation.

When I was spoiling myself with the "carpet book," that line made me think the thing was fake. I was stunned the editors let it go, but it is appropriate to the story/her rage.

Watching Nick-in-a-Box after reading DH is honestly something that would never have occurred to me. =P I can see wanting to revisit something just as emotionally wringing, to keep the endorphins going... but I associate Grave Danger with 2 things: Ecklie's censored scene, and the steady decline of the series after this ep. So it makes me cry in a not-good way.

Honestly it just happened to be on. Chris was watching the CSI marathon that was on and it just happened to be Nick-in-a-Box right after I finished reading DH.
