i finally got Design of a Decade a few days ago. 'Black Cat' is currently playing and sending me back into memory land.
one Halloween, my best friend Robin decided she wanted to be a black cat and she wanted us to go around with this song playing on her tape player. i could never say no to Robin because i loved her and she was my best friend so i said yes and i pushed her wheelchair all over west collingswood heights wearing a unicorn mask and grooving to Black Cat. this song always reminds me of her and how close we used to be. she is the reason that i'll even listen to Janet Jackson now because late one night at one of our million sleepovers, she played the Rhythm Nation tape for me and told me that one day she was going to be a rock star like Janet. i never told her that it was a stupid dream even though she was 13 and had juvenile rheumetoid arthritis and hadn't been able to walk since she was 6 and had two fake hips and a fake elbow. i would never take that dream away from her...
