you know what i want?

a big, meaty piece of fanfiction to sink my teeth into. and by big and meaty - i mean something that takes chapter after chapter of angst, sex, and plot to get to the end. i miss that.

does anyone know of some?

i'll even take fandoms i don't read in.

but not bandslash. i'm sorry, but i just have no interest in that. (eta: or spn)

Ha! There are some things I've pretty much decided I won't like w/out trying. ;) For a looong time, fanfic in general was on that list. Buffy was the first show that I got hooked on badly enough to want more stories when it wasn't airing. I still don't read in any other fandom.

In general, All About Spike has a good range of authors - pretty well screened. I consistently like Annie Sewell-Jennings (try The Last Summer longish and AU), Barb Cummings (A Raising in the Sun, Necessary Evils and A Parliament of Monsters are 3 novel length pieces that take place after canon S5), and Fallow Doe (though I can't remember my favourite titles). The authors at buggerthis.net (a small collective) are generally very readable 'though it's not all my cup of tea. From there, Herself has a lovely piece called Disenchantment that I catch myself rereading, and Kalima's Daemons Luminati.

A lot of Buffy sites are in complete disrepair since things went offair, I mean, completely offline. I kinda hate it because I can't find things anymore! :D

No kidding! That's the problem with being involved in a fandom that's been off the air for a little while, entropy settles in pretty quickly when it comes to fic sites.

I used to visit the Writers Guild for consistently good recs, but I think they've been gone for a while. I used to beta on a Willow site that's been down forever, and I used to participate in Dingoes on the Prairie, which went kerplunk even before the show went off the air, I think.

Oh my god, I did a BPAL swap with Rebecca Carefoot on eljay and my mind almost imploded. That is a seriously geeky reference, but her stuff and Dare's stuff were the first Buffyfics I ever read (esp. loved the MST fics).

There are still a few of the knock-dead authors around, it's just hard to find them because the fandom isn't as glommed together as it used to be. I try to poke through their eljays sometimes but it seems weirdly intrusive as opposed to poking around a website.

Wow, that comment got long. Sorry! Obvs I am a huge-ass Buffy nerd to this day. :P
